AI 3D generation is useful for game teams that need many props quickly: barrels, crates, furniture, rocks, placeholder weapons. This guide describes a practical workflow with 3DView.ai and the checks that still need a human.
Where AI models fit
- Good fit: background props, set dressing, placeholders while prototyping, exploring concepts.
- Weak fit: main characters, anything that must deform cleanly in animation, modular kits that must snap together precisely.
Generated meshes are usually triangulated, with automatic UVs and baked textures. That is fine for static props, but it is not what a character artist would deliver.
Step 1: Generate
Describe one object, its style and its materials, for example "medieval wooden barrel with rusty iron bands, stylized game asset". Text-to-3D and image-to-3D both cost 10 credits; image-to-3D gives more control if you already have concept art. Download the result as GLB.
Step 2: Import into your engine
- Unity: Unity does not import GLB out of the box. Install the official glTFast package (com.unity.cloud.gltfast) from the Package Manager, or convert the file to FBX in Blender.
- Unreal Engine 5: imports glTF/GLB files directly from the Content Browser.
- Godot 4: imports glTF/GLB natively; copy the file into the project folder.
- Blender: File → Import → glTF 2.0, for cleanup or conversion to other formats.
Step 3: Check before it goes into the game
- Scale and pivot: glTF uses meters; make sure the object has a sensible size and its pivot at the base.
- Polygon count: decimate in Blender if the mesh is heavier than the object deserves, and create LODs for props seen from a distance.
- Collisions: use simple box or convex colliders instead of the render mesh.
- Textures: resize them to what the object needs on screen and check that the style matches your other assets.
- Records: note how each asset was made, so licensing questions are easy to answer later.
A ready-made alternative
For common objects, a model from the 3DView.ai shop (models from Sketchfab, 10 credits, hosting included) can be quicker than generating one.
